Resolved Question: video editing software?

im looking for a proffesional video editing software. i tried nero and sonic and i was not pleased with the results. i need a software where i can place a basic vid stream and add multiple overlays, add an audio stream from external sources, overlay the audio stream, adjust volume, add volume curve, sppeed up the a/v streams, etc. i heard some of sony's softwares could do this but i don't know what theyre called. i forgot to mention... i want to be able to add images in the middle of video streams without creating slideshows.
